Sean Hannity on is quoted in a Time piece on the controversy over Obama’s 2010 Census plans, but go to FOXNews itself for the lowdown on its anti-A.C.O.R.N. paranoia.
The real treat is watching Glenn Beck get paranoid about fascism (video here). To his credit, he went to the trouble of looking up the meaning of the term and even goes so far as to distinguish it from socialism, more than his right wing comrades are apt to do. As a leftoid guy, I have heard my share of wild fears that America is headed toward fascism or has already gone there. I even feel that we have certain fascistic tendencies of nationalism and racism that Beck’s (and Lou Dobbs’) nativist rants evoke continually. Yet I don’t think I have seen the connections Beck has made between, say, the Roman symbol of the fasces and the U.S. dime. That’s like pointing out the pyramid and the eye on the dollar bill and declaring we’re run by the Illuminati. Fun parlor games, but, c’mawn!
For the record, I like Candy Crowley. I have seen her wince many times in reports on Dobbs’ show. I can’t imagine what her interactions with Beck would be like. How painful.
